USTC Establishes Two New Mobile Postdoctoral Stations

As jointly notified by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and the National Committee for Postdoctoral Management, a number of new mobile postdoctoral stations have been approved for the year of 2009. Included in the list are two first-level disciplinary programs at USTC: the Program in Environmental Science and Engineering of the School of Earth and Space Sciences, and the Program in Mineral Engineering of the State Key Laboratory of Fire Science. So far, USTC has a total of 19 postdoctoral stations.

The schools that have set up new postdoctoral stations are required to strengthen the construction and management of the postdoctoral stations by improving investments and recruitments. Examinations and evaluations of applicants for postdoctoral positions shall be made in an open and fair manner without any influence of favoritism. Postdoctoral research fellows shall be recruited in accordance with both national and university regulations and on the basis of their qualifications as well as research and innovation capabilities.

The new postdoctoral stations should be focused on providing fine research conditions and an innovative working environment, ensuring the quality of postdoctoral training with an optimal integration of theoretical studies and practical applications, enlarging postdoctoral recruitments, and enhancing the efficiency of the stations. Postdoctoral research fellows should gradually become an important part of resources that the University may fully utilize for its teaching and research efforts.

In addition, the newly established postdoctoral stations should do well in their basic work during each stage of their operation so that they will smoothly meet the criteria for the interim inspection and assessment in two years’ time.
